Concepción “Conchita” Jiménez-González, PhD
Dr. Concepción Jiménez-González is Director of New Product Development at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), leading the introduction of new Skin Health consumer products. In addition, she is an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University’s Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department, and serves in the Governing Board of the American Chemistry Society’s Green Chemistry Institute. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University; an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from ITESM; México and a B.S. in Chemical and Industrial Engineering at the Chihuahua Institute of Technology, México. Following the Spanish tradition, she is also known as “Conchita”. Dr. Jiménez-González started her career at GSK as an intern visiting researcher in the UK before moving to a chemical engineer position in the US. Since then, she has held several roles of increasing responsibility, such as Manager of Sustainable Technologies, Manager of New Product Support, Director of Operational Sustainability, Director of Engagement, Planning, Analysis and Reporting, amongst others. Before GSK, she worked as an environmental engineer for GeoEnvironmental; as a program manager, researcher and project engineer at ITESM in Mexico; and as visiting researcher at Pfizer. She has been an active contributor in the fields of Green Chemistry and Engineering, Life Cycle Assessment, Sustainability, and chemical engineering. She routinely presents in scientific and business venues, peer-reviews scientific articles and publishes in recognized technical and industrial publications, including the book ‘Green Chemistry and Engineering: A Practical Design Approach”, co-authored with David J.C. Constable. Conchita has also been a member of the US EPA’s Board of Scientific Counselors, Technology for Sustainability Sub-Committee. She is a SHPE life time member and has served in SHPE leadership positions at the NCSU student chapter, Greater Philadelphia Professional Chapter, NC Professional Chapter (founding member), and as in the National Board of Directors as SHPE National and Regional Vice-President.
Louis A. Martin-Vega

Dr. Louis A. Martin-Vega is the Dean of Engineering at North Carolina State University. With more than 9,100 students, 750 faculty and staff, and $154 million in annual research expenditures, NC State’s College of Engineering is internationally recognized for the excellence of its research, education and outreach programs.
Martin-Vega received his BS in industrial engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, an MS in operations research from New York University and ME and PhD degrees in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Florida.

Fernando Rosario

Fernando is an active member, recruiter, and coach for organizations such as the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA), the Puerto Rico Leadership Conference (PRLC), the Latin American Engineering Student Association (LAESA), and the National Institute for Leadership Advancement (NILA).
Fernando is currently a corporate executive at Accenture. During his seventeen year tenure in consulting he had the opportunity to work with Fortune 500 clients in the financial services, retail, and technology sectors – developing and delivering large scale technology projects in the banking, eCommerce, mortgage, risk management, credit and debit card, call center, mobile application, and payment infrastructure areas. In addition, Fernando serves as the Hispanic community lead within Accenture as part of the U.S. Diversity Program. Fernando is a board member of the SHPE Industrial Partnership Council (IPC) where he represents Accenture, and he was recently selected as one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in IT by the Hispanic IT Executive Council.

Dr. Jason Jerald
PhD–Founder and President NextGen Interactions
Dr. Jerald, Founder and President of NextGen Interactions, has been creating computer graphics and next-generation 3D computer interfaces for 20 years. His work has been featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, in the New York Times, and on the cover of the MIT Press Journal Presence: Teleoperators and Telepresence. Jason has worked with research institutions such as NASA Ames Research Center, large corporations such as General Motors, startup companies such as Oculus VR, game studios such as Valve Software, and government agencies such as DARPA. Jason has held various technical and leadership positions including building and leading a team of ~300 individuals, has received various awards, has studied under pioneers of technology including Dr. Frederick P. Brooks, Jr.—recipient of the ACM Turing award (recognized as the Nobel Prize of computing), serves on multiple conference committees, and speaks at conferences and other programs throughout the world. Dr. Jerald holds over 20 publications and patents in the areas of computer graphics, human-computer interaction, and virtual/augmented reality.
LT Laura Small
Navy
LT Laura Small graduated Leesville Road High School in 2005. She graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a B.S. in English in 2009. Upon receiving her commission, she reported to the USS COLE (DDG 67) as the Legal Officer and Ordinance Officer. As an independent deployer, the USS COLE deployed in 2010 to the Horn of Africa as a part of a NATO counter-piracy task force. For her second division officer tour, LT Small remained onboard the USS COLE and served as the Navigator. She deployed in 2012 to the Eastern Mediterranean, providing ballistic missile support in defense of Israel and Europe. LT Small is currently serving as an officer recruiter and division officer for Division Five in Navy Recruiting District Raleigh.
Tom Brna
Merck and Company, Inc.
Tom Brna joined Merck and Company, Inc. in 1990 at the Elkton, Virginia Stonewall Plant following completion of a BS in Chemical Engineering with honors from North Carolina State University. While at Stonewall, Tom held positions of increasing responsibility within Environmental Engineering, Technical Operations and Manufacturing. During this time, Tom obtained his MBA with a concentration in Technology Management from James Madison University. In 1998, Tom relocated to West Point, Pennsylvania and assisted in establishing the Chemical Planning process within the North American Planning Hub. Tom transitioned into Pharmaceutical Operations managing the Coating Department. During this time, Tom led the consolidation of the Specialty Coating and filmcoating operations, as well as leading several new product introductions and line extensions such as PEPCID Complete, SINGULAIR Oral Granules, ZETIA, EMEND and PEPCID ES. Tom transitioned into a NEXIUM Start-up role and successfully led efforts associated with the staffing, training and start-up of NEXIUM into West Point Pharmaceutical Operations. In 2004, Tom provided support to the MK0524 (CORDAPTIVE) project in evaluation of Supply Chain Logistics, contributing to Comprehensive Scope development and evaluation of several project alternatives in addition to development of initial launch plans. Tom relocated back to North Carolina in 2005 as the Integrated Process Team (IPT) Leader for Merck's new Durham Vaccine Manufacturing Facility (VMF). Tom maintained overall responsibility for the Operations team for maintenance and operation of the vaccine process facility and equipment, completing equipment qualifications and process performance qualification leading to facility and product licensure. Following start-up in 2012, Tom transitioned to Director of the Engineering Center of Excellence at the Durham where he has responsibility for maintenance and operation of site utilities, overall facility maintenance, emergency response, and capital management. Tom has served as a member of the NCSU BTEC Advisory Committee since its’ inception.
